Likely my Last Update before The Eruption Starts -Yet Another Volcano About To Start
Despite the 2 weeks i spent recently on the Reykjanes Peninsula, while mother earth was just teasing us, i'm off to the south again in order to capture the first hours of eruption number 8. I have already captured huge amount of footage but nothing from the first hours of eruption 4-7 and it's very important to have a least one such scene from my own camera gear to use in a documentary later on. It's impossible to say how the next chapter will turn out so I'm only concerned about the outcome for Grindavik and the Svartsengi infrastructure. We can handle anything else.

The New Icelandic Lava Road After 2 Eruptions - Thermal Drone View and More
Переглядів 41 тис.14 годин тому
I did this thermal scan with a few before and after videos to show you the hot lava road that got covered twice with tongues of lava coming from the eruption in February and April. I decided to have a little fun with the editing since iv'e been doing so many videos that i really didn't want to do since November. This is a natural disaster and we might just as well get the third doze of lava ove...
Reykjavik Could Be Better Located for The Future - Lava Fields Around The City
Переглядів 27 тис.16 годин тому
Reykjavik is surrounded with lava fields, craters, tuff mountains from subglacial eruptions and other geological features like the enormous "Hjallamisgengi" fault. Those lava fields originate from various sources but many of the can be traces to the so-called Krísuvik volcanic system and some experts claim it's already woken up, and we might get some big news in the coming years. This simple dr...
Tension Run High While Icelanders Expect Volcanic Eruption Number 8 Any Day Now
Переглядів 38 тис.19 годин тому
The level of uncertainty runs very high now although the MET office claims that we might have to wait a bit longer, but we will know the truth soon enough. First and foremost we hope that all infrastructure and the town it self will survive the next event but since we have already about 14 million cubic meters of magma ready to take off, my expectations are modest, most likely to safe my self f...
The Grindavik Golf Course On The Plate Boundaries - Seriously Damaged
Переглядів 34 тис.21 годину тому
This is the beautiful and very special but seriously damaged golf course is situated in a graben on the plate boundaries just a few km. west of Grindavik. It's been closed since the November 10th event and awaits approval from the authorities after a ground penetration scan in order to detect hidden fractures. If that goes well, it will be opened in a few weeks but i'm leaving a link to the clu...
The Eruption Is About To Come To An End And This Is How The Crater Has Been Changing

The Volcano Surrounding - Sundhnukar Lava Field Overview

This video is meant to help you to understand basic landscape features around the volcano and the lava field view or one of my ways to come up with the full story although I really didn't like the light that day and air pollution was a problem. Thermal Cameral Drone Above The Volcano And Lava Field By Grindavik

I did this thermal scan to show you how the hot lava field surrounds the village Grindavik and the little crater that burned down 3 residential homes is also still visible. It's also possible to see the path of the lava and where it has been accumulating, showing how useful this thing can be to react to hidden lava channels, like the one that crawled over a lava barrier 4 days after I thot this...
Where The Mid Atlantic Ridge Becomes Iceland - The Reykjanes Peninsula

Uncertainty Is The Only Word To Describe The Atmosphere In Iceland

The uncertainty is not getting any better since this while scenario started on November 10th 2023 as the land uplift remains unchanged according to the latest info package from the MET office. In general it's expected that the ongoing eruption will intensify or that the ground will be torn up by several km. long erupting fissure, like we have witness several times before. In such case, the lava...

I was aware of the overall history in this video, but not fully engaged with it until I watched the Fagradalsfjall volcano in 2021..which was, mostly, without the human and Icelandic impact that WW2 had on this amazing island of people. Wars are terrible, we all know this, but having your Icelandic "native voice" along with some pretty serious videos of the past, it is wonderful that you have once again, given a view of the past and an intense and thought-provoking view of the "now" in your latest video. I will bookmark this remarkable video, Gylfi, and watch it again and again to try and absorb all the information you have provided about the history aspect of this country. Thanks so much!! Just an amazing video!

Some background "fun" facts about that alarmist youtube channel you refer to - I've followed her a bit as an interesting case study of misinformation and echo-chambering. The maker, called Silki, has now also taken to making videos about Campi Flegrei in Italy; e.g. on May 13th she made a video claiming that a supervolcano eruption is imminent (with dramatic pictures, music etc) and that a leading scientist Roberto Scandone (she spent 10% of her video showing random screenshots of his publication list and similar) said he would like to evacuate the region if he had the resources. I then checked the original video of Scandone and a summary thereof in a news paper, with the following results: - Scandone did not mention a supervolcano (eruption of VEI8 or more), the worst scenario he came up with (of a list of 3) was an explosive eruption of VEI4-5, which means 1000 times less than a supervolcano. To be clear, this would still be very dangerous regionally (Eyjafjallajökull was VEI4 and you don't want that in your backyard) but not the global catastrophe that Silki was trying to sell. - Scandone mentioned evacuation, but the context was more subtle: He got asked by the audience what research he would do on the topic if he had unlimited resources. He answered that if he had unlimited resources, he'd evacuate the area because "it's absurd to have a situation like this" (people effectively living in a caldera). He did not say, however, that he recommends an evacuation, with all its tradeoffs, in a more realistic world where he does not have "unlimited" resources. As often, Silki manages to just about avoid lying outright. In particular, she did not say explicitly that Scandone had predicted a supervolcano. But by not clearly stating that "Scandone said X, but I think the eruption could even be a supervolcano" she still implies that all her content is backed by Scandone's expertise. I tried to call her out for this nonsense, as well as prior nonsense on Iceland, but have the impression that she made my comments invisible (it does not appear when I open youtube in another browser in which I am not logged into my channel). If this suspicion is correct, she makes it nearly impossible to contradict her and point her fans, or people who stumble across her stuff by accident, to her inaccuracies and errors. I also think hiding criticism is very cowardly - if she thought she's right and I'm wrong, she should reply (or hope her fans will defend her). So now the situation is that many critical-minded people leave her channel as too alarmist, but those who like alarmism join and applaud her, so she obliges by becoming even more alarmist, whips up even more fear and distrust, etc, and at the end, she kind of creates a little room, or echo-chamber, of alarmists nodding to each other, impervious to factual information on the topic. And along the way, these people are given the impression that scientists "just don't know" (of course, volcanologists are not perfect and cannot predict this system well but this doesn't mean they "just don't know"), that governments are all about greed (again, governments are not angels but where's the nuance) and even that climate change doesn't matter ("so there's a supervolcano going to erupt and people get upset about what car you drive or whether my cow farts!").

You know, a while back I was looking on Google Maps just at what areas are included in "Reykjavíkurborg". I found out that there is a big land area between the fjords of Kollafjörður and Hvalfjörður which currently only has one settlement called Grundarhverfi. Of course, it is _relatively_ far away from the rest of Reykjavík and there's probably a need to change some things like policies and such in order for the city to expand there in any great scale but afaict, it looks must safer than if the city were to expand south.

I saw the Icelandic news article about the bus driver who has a room in the Silica Hotel waiting to collect the guests of the Blue Lagoon and take them away after the next eruption starts. The geologists and videographers will be running towards the eruption.
